Self-concept and self-actualization: core of nervousness and community apprehension disorder - attraction

In the dynamics of the self-concept and in the bias to self-actualization are found the central causes of Introversion and Common Concern Disorder / Collective Phobia. It seems that these setting consequence from the introduction, in the self-concept, of the essentials which obstruct self-actualization. This hindrance is destructive and practiced as embarrassment inasmuch as it precludes that a given force, self-actualization, expands. We will allocate each part.

What the self-concept is - the set of principles and beliefs, conscious or approachable to one's consciousness, as well as attitudes and opinions the creature has of himself, of himself as regards others, the world and all that one's mind can reach.

In the case of Bashfulness or Community Anxiety, the concepts must be examined:

  • as regards himself;
  • as regards himself vis à vis the other person.

Concepts as regards oneself - are predominantly depreciative. Examples: "I've got nobody to talk to other citizens about", "I am not able to face life", "I am ugly", "I am not knowledgeable", "I am not intelligent", "I feel unprotected, like a child", "It is awful when a big name belittles me", "I cannot stand being rejected", "I am not nice to be with", "I have no attendance of mind", "I cannot tell jokes or attractive tales", "Indeed I do have 'that' problem", "I am ashamed by 'that' catch of my parents". Many of these concepts - or analogous concepts - fit neatly into what is known as low self-esteem or beliefs.

Concepts of oneself vis à vis the other character - this "other" being perceived as stronger, more accomplished and intrinsically hostile. Examples: "People are ready to jump on me and appraise me", "Everybody has a boy/girlfriend, bar me", "Nobody gives a hoot about what I say", "People may not in fact come right out and say it, but they do not think well of me", "Everyone sees me as a child and will try to take improvement of me", "If I react, he / she will catch me from behind", "Other folks are at all times judging me", "They will make fun of me, depending on what I say", "If they do not laugh at me in my face, they will assuredly do it at the back my back", "What if they determine 'that' problem?", "If I blow it or shoot for myself in the foot, each person will know about it", "No one look at me with respect".

Previous experiences - For these concepts to be impregnated into one's self, the character will have gone all through lasting experiences.

Tendency to Self-Actualization - A idea formed by Kurt Goldstein in 1940 and later commonly used by Carl Rogers, it means a basic force which drives the character advance and onwards. This force has biological and psychological aspects. In the psychological field there are air force which drive us on in quite a few directions. When these army are obstructed, we feel discomfort.

Social Disquiet Disorder and Nervousness - Feelings

Feelings skilled all the way through Coyness and Common Concern - These are feelings one experiences when a location brings up depreciative aspects of self-concept and the danger represented by the other person. Example: the characteristic whose self belief says "I have nonentity to talk to other citizens about" and he faces a big name whom he facts is about to analyze him - will feel distress in that situation. In fact, this distress is a set of feelings and emotions, intimidation and jeopardy being fairly communal - this is known as anxiety. Then this apprehension arises from the hitch of the force that drives the anyone to collective integration.

Anguish is also highlighted and in many situations it preceeds imprudent depression, i. e. , it preceeds the depression as a end result of the situation.

The anyone feels threatened in communal situations or facing the expectation of such situations. In affection the threat, he/she undergoes physiological reactions which cook the creature for departure in order to survive. Departure is one's artless way out in Communal Concern Disorder because, according to his self concept, the anyone has no weapons to fight off the threat.

Although there is no bodily risk, what is felt is at the same levels of animal risk and can be as high as the risk of bringing up the rear one's life. It is a intimidation of psychological death, of no longer obtainable as a person, of disintegrated self. At a lower intensity level, one's dent is that of advent to be ill with major losses.

Instintictively, the anyone avoids threatening situations, i. e. , avoids contacts with others. If alone or with relatives or with a friend, then there is no intimidation or it is lower. A biological effect is the lonesomeness of solitude.

Deadlocks - In many situations, departure is impossible. In other situations, the inner force, in the form of desire, of need, is very intense. What to do in such deadlocks? Associates find adaptive ways. Example: they arise behaviors in order not to allow that the antagonism - which they think others bear in mind towards them - to come to the surface. Among such behaviors are collective changes in one's tone of voice, the use of assisting verbs, the use of the verbal conditional tense, milder gestures, verbal economy. By means of such actions, they judge that they be in charge of the antagonism that they think exists in others.

Concretely, they begin to speak in a lower voice, use expressions such as "I amazement whether you could?", "Perhaps you might be able to", "Could it be that you might do this?", "Were it possible, I would like", and they advance verbal mannerisms, speak little, beat endlessly about the bush beforehand advent to the point, and so forth and so on.

The character who is not able to make these adaptations or regards them as insufficient constantly feels that breakdown is about to take place. In other words, he or she lives in continual apprehension.

It becomes evident that the dynamics of self-concept and self-actualization play a crucial role in the Introversion and Communal Angst Disorder. To overcome them the being needs to adjust these dynamics.
